The Alone Collection: Nature’s Reset

The Alone Collection: Seven Original Paintings that reflect on the quiet resilience found in nature—and in ourselves.

This spring, I’m honoured to introduce The Alone Collection—a new body of work that reflects my deepening connection to the natural world and a powerful shift in how I see the animals that call it home. This seven-piece series is a quiet, intentional exploration of what it means to be alone—but not lonely—in the wilderness.

Each painting captures the soul of the West Coast of Canada, specifically the wild coastal landscapes of Vancouver Island, where I live and work. Towering forests, expansive shorelines, soft mist rolling through ancient trees—and at the heart of each composition, a solitary native animal. A black bear. An eagle. Just one creature in each scene, anchored in the land, fully present in its moment.

The Inspiration: Solitude as Strength

The spark for this collection came from an unexpected source: the reality show Alone. The seasons filmed here on Vancouver Island captivated me—not just because of the location, but because of what happened to the people who participated. Stripped of distraction, they found themselves truly alone in nature. And while that may sound harsh or isolating, what struck me was the opposite: many of them found peace. They became centered. The stillness and isolation revealed their inner strength.

That idea—that solitude can be a place of transformation—is the heartbeat of this collection.

A New Chapter: Animals as Emotional Anchors

This is the first time I’ve ever painted animals in my landscapes. I approached them not as wildlife subjects, but as emotional vessels—symbols of the human experience, of reflection, and resilience. Each painting features only one animal, portrayed not in action, but in stillness. A bear sits quietly at the edge of a beach. An eagle soars alone through a mist-draped sky. These aren’t just scenic moments—they’re emotional portraits.

To deepen that connection, I’ve titled each painting with a relatable human name—names like Alan, George, and Carol. It’s a small but meaningful gesture that invites empathy. It reminds us that we, too, are part of the wilderness. That we’re not so different from the beings who share this coast with us. And that we have a shared strength to thrive not just survive.

First Access to Collectors

The Alone Collection will be released on Sunday, April 13 at 5 PM PST, exclusively through my website. First access will go to my VIP Collectors—those already subscribed to my email list. If you’re on the list, you’ll receive a private link before the collection is made public.

This work is for those who find beauty in quiet power, who are moved by the West Coast’s raw landscapes, and who feel a pull toward introspection and connection. Thank you for being part of that journey with me.

With gratitude,

Ronéi
