The Eminence Collection…
It all began with a walk to the sea. There was something about the light that day. Everything it touched glowed. The calming rhythmic sound of the waves on the shoreline soothed my busy mind. The ocean with it’s deep and ever-changing shade of blue slowed my breath. It all filled me with a sense of awe and reverence for the superior beauty of the coast.
The Eminence Collection is inspired by ancient towering cedars, mist caught in the mountain stacks and endless ocean surges. You may feel like you’ve touched heaven.
This collection features 6 original coastal themed acrylic landscapes.
“Brilliance” and “Radiance” are all about the harmonious warm and cool colour palette and incredible depth. A breathtaking aerial perspective makes you feel like you’re floating. You soar like an eagle through fir boughs to the bay below, with its smooth sandy beach and unending pounding surf while the sun sets.
“Gleam”…this painting is the embodiment of ocean swell and mountain glow. Cool crisp hues that conjure the smell of the salty air and warm glowing mountains backlit by a hazy summer sky.
“Glimmer”, inspired by backlit mountains, clean coastal air and an ocean so calm that sunbeams glimmer and dance across it.
“Luminous” and “Afterglow”…inspired by ever swaying currents, warm ocean breezes and endless west coast summers. Warm hues of the setting sun illuminate the sky and delineate the mountain stacks.
A bit about my process...
Working with photo references and my because of my lifelong residency on Vancouver Island, I conjure what I know so well about this coast. In between painting, I close my eyes and recall the smells and sound of nature from my hikes, walks, runs and kayaking around this area. Trying to infuse the feeling you get when you’re immersed in unadulterated nature. My compositions exclude any sign of habitation so the viewer feels like they are the first person to discover the scene. I begin my work with a complimentary ground colour. For example, if the final predominant palette will be blue, I will use an orange ground, if the final predominant colour of the painting will be green and blue, I’ll cover the canvas in a red-orange. Then I create my composition, gradually depending the values from light to dark. This creates a roadmap for the painting prior to applying the final colours. Once the underpainting is completed, I begin building the colour palette with thin transparent layers.I continue to build on those layers and usually work from from to back. To punctuate the scene I use a negative painting technique, carving the sky into the trees and mountain lines.
I hope you enjoy this work! xo Ronei
